But you could use it mumma!

So this is the leaflet that dropped through our front door this morning. It arrived with some other junk mail but this was the one leaflet that the kids were really excited about, more so than the many offerings of fast food. I should have realised at this point that they were planning something or sharing a private joke that I may or may not be allowed to find out about sometime.

I didn’t have to wait very long before both Sproglet and Gremlin were standing in front of my desk (I currently have a job that allows me to work from home). Sproglet was the official spokesperson on their behalf and he announced that he had something he needed to show me that he thought his dad and I should buy. Both of them then went on to explain that they really didn’t feel like walking up the stairs anymore and thought this would be a great addition for our house.

It all sounded like good fun at this point but I took the opportunity to suggest to them that as they are currently 8 and 11 years old and in very good health I wasn’t sure that we really needed a stair lift at this point in their lives.

Without even stopping to consider a reply, the Gremlin immediately responded with “Well, I think it would be really good for you and dad to use.” When I looked slightly startled by her serious suggestion, she tried to recover it as best as she could by suggesting it might also be a great thing for when her nanna and granddad come to visit as they could use it as well.

I am now sitting here, quietly crying in to my drink (only kidding about the crying.) But, I am sitting here wondering how old they actually think me and their dad are. I know we moan about our knees aching when we have to go up the stairs about 10 times at bed time but do they seriously think we are so infirm and old that we need a stairlift?

Maybe, I should get my own back and tell them that we are going to move house again (we are still unpacking from the last time) and this time we are going to choose a bungalow because we can’t afford a stairlift and we don’t want to use stairs anymore as we are sooooo old!
